The Portfolio

The "https://yaneff-usd.myshopify.com/collections/hommage-to-lautrec" portfolio consists of a hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers of our time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries, as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of his death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners' Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi. The printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world.

The Designer - James McMullan

He was born in Tsingato, North China, where his grandparents founded an Anglican Mission. He was educated in China, India, Canada, and the United States, and was graduated from Pratt Institute in 1958.

From 1965 to 1968 Mr. McMullan was member of Push Pin Studio. During the 1970's, he provided journalistic illustrations for many magazines, including several for the story in 'New York Magazine' which became the visual inspiration for the movie Saturday Night Fever. Since that time he has done a wide variety of work, and as the principal artist for Lincoln Center Theater, he has created posters for dozens of plays, such as 'Anything Goes,' 'The Front Page' 'Six Degrees of Separation,' 'Carousel,' and 'Arcadia.'

Mr. McMullan initiated the High Focus Drawing Program at the School of Visual Arts and has written High Focus Drawing, published by Overlook Press in 1995. His other published works include Revealing Illustrations (Watson Guptill, 1982) the picture books, Nutcracker Noel, Hey Pipsqueak!, No, No, Jo! (Harper Collins), and Papa's Song (Farrar, Strauss & Givoux 1999). The Theater Posters of James McMullan was published by Penguin Studio in 1998.

Mr. McMullan lives with his wife, Kate, and daughter, Leigh, in New York City and Sag Harbor, New York. He works out of his own design and illustration studio, James McMullan Inc.
