The Designer - Raymond Savignac
'The poster is a streetwalker. Popular and aristocratic, flower of the cobble or queen of the boarding, the poster offers itself to us as a gift, while ever keeping aloof.'
1907 - Born on November 6, in Paris. His parents, natives of Aveyron, run a restaurant. Studies at Lavoisier School.
1922 - He gives up his studies and begins his career as a draughtsman at the Compagnie des Transports Parisiens (now R.A.T.P.). Evening classes (draughtsmanship). He works as a professional draughtsman, at Lortac's, the pioneer of the promotional cartoon. 1927 - Military service (18 months).
1929 - Works for the advertising company Mirarmar, for Harchard, Metropole. Various odd jobs. Meets Cassandre.

1938 - Cassandre's departure to the States marks the end of their collaboration.
1939 - Mobilisation. 1940 - Back to Paris. 1941 - Meets the advertising executive Robert Guerin who finds him a job at the Consortium Eugene Schueller.
1949 - His poster for the soap Monsavon marks the actual beginning of his career. Joint exhibition with Villemot.
1954 - Trip to the United States. He settles his workshop in Volney street.
1969 - Decor and costumes for 'L'avare' at the Comedie-Franpaise. 1971 - Leaves Volney street and moves to Villa Brune.

1981 - The campaign 'En avant Citroen', ordered by R.S.C.G., restores him to his place in the sphere of advertising.
Today, at the age of 94, when some cultivate the art of being greatgrandparents, Raymond Savignac still designs graphic spoonerisms with vivid colours, marked lines, deceptively childish drawing. More vigorous than ever, his project is a hearty tribute to the verve of the Gascon Lautrec!
