The Portfolio
The "Nouveau Salon des Cent" portfolio consists of a
hundred posters created by one hundred of the best graphic designers
of our
time, from 24 different countries including China, Japan, Mexico,
Brazil, Zimbabwe, the United-States and most of the European countries,
as a tribute to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, for the Centenary of
his
death, 1901-2001. Initiated by the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum Partners'
Club. In cooperation with the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum of Albi.
The
printing was limited to only 380. The posters have been exhibited
in major museums and galleries around the world. View

The Designer - Jan Rajlich Sr.
Born in Dirna, Czechoslovakia, in 1920.
He studied at the Skola umeni in Zlin, a private universitylevel
art school of the Czech shoe company Bata.
Having changed several occupations he finally settled in Brno
in 1950, where he freelanced as a painter and a graphic designer.
He designed a series of posters, symbols and trademarks, typographical
layouts, pictographic information sets, etc. Rajlich also cooperated
with architects in mural paintings and decorative mosaics.
In 1963 he initiated the International Biennale of Graphic Design
in Brno, and was its president until 1992. He also writes articles
for design journals and lectures on graphic design. In 1992 he
was appointed Head of Visual Communications Design Department at
the Faculty of Visual Arts of the Brno University of Technology
(VUT). He is often invited to participate as a judge in major international
exhibitions and competitions, e. g. Bologna, Brno, Paris, Trnava,
Vienna, Warsaw, Zilina and others.
A list of his clients included many important Czech firms, companies
and cultural institutions.
He has held over 40 one-man exhibitions and participated in more
than 300 joint exhibitions at home and abroad. Rajlich took part
in a series of important international cyclic exhibitions of posters,
graphic design and prints, e. g. Biennale of Venice 1972, International
Biennale of Graphic Design in Brno 1964-98, International Biennale
in Warsaw 1968-96, International Triennial in Trnava, Slovakia,
1994-2000.
His posters and prints (serigraphs) are to be found in the collections
of museums and galleries in homeland and abroad. He has received
over 40 awards, and among them are the ICOGRADA Excellence Award
(Nice, 1985), Euro-design award (Ostend, Belgium, 1994) Design
Prestige Award of the Czech Design Centre (1996), etc.
He is member of AGI, of the Czech Art Association 'Q', of the
Brno Biennale Association, etc. |
