Malteste worked for satirical magazines like Le Rire.

Louis Malteste
was a contributor to L'Estampe moderne. He was born Jules Malteste in Chartres, but either changed his name to Louis or simply used a middle name. Malteste was the brother of the artist Henri Théodore Malteste, called Malatesta. Malteste exhibited at the Salon des Cent in 1897 and at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1902. He supplied humorous drawings to satirical journals such as L'Assiette au beurre and Le Rire. (Idbury Prints)

Mucha Cover

Not unlike the Maitre de L'Affiche series, L'Estampe Moderne was a portfolio printed between 1897-98, published by Imprimerie Champenois, Paris, contained 24 monthly portfolios, with four original lithographs in each. Each commissioned only for this series. Some of the contributing artists included Mucha, Rhead, Meunier, Ibels, Steinlen, Willette and Grasset.
