Maitre de L'Affiche, PL.122 Moulin Rouge Sells for $6736 US.

Greg's Note: "The poor quality of this piece is shocking. View the Poster
I am stunned that Christies would even offer it, and that it sold for almost $7000.
The colours are faded and the mat burn around the image and edges is significant.
I would never even consider selling a "Maitre de L'Affiche" in such poor condition!"

Here are the proper colours of the "Maitre de L'Affiche"

"My Father advised his clients to always buy the very best condition you can find, and afford." Greg

A new annual summer sale of vintage travel posters and luggage celebrating the golden
age of tourism, The Art of Travel. With the arrival of the railway in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, artists, writers, and aristocrats flocked to the Côte d’Azur to experience the unique landscape, light, and luxury of the region. The beautiful art deco style posters that were commissioned by the railway companies remind us of the timeless appeal of this glamorous and beautiful region. The sale presents a rare opportunity to acquire original vintage posters that promoted traveling in style during the golden age of tourism. Highlights of the auction include spectacular posters by A.M. Cassandre and Roger Broders.

Online Poster Exhibitions: VIRAL POSTERS

"A Viral poster, i.e. a poster that spawns many copies which spread like a virus.
From observing the number of copies on Pinterest and Google Images,
I estimate that currently there are maybe 1000 different variations on internet,
with a growth rate of 10 - 20% per year." Rene Wanner "Poster Guru" www.posterpage.ch

Web Exhibition: Keep Calm and Carry On
Read the history of this 1939 poster and view the 335 modern versions it's spawned.

Just before the outbreak of World War 2, when many people in England
were afraid of possible German mass bombings or even an invasion,
the British government printed 2.5 million copies of a poster "Keep calm and carry on"
and planned to put it on the streets in case of an attack to prevent widespread panic.
As it turned out, the posters were not needed, and were probably destroyed and
forgotten after the war. In 2000, an original copy was discovered in a bookshop in
Northumberland, and soon was reprinted and commercialized on T-shirts and coffee mugs.

Web Exhibition: Rosie the Riveter
Read the history of this 1943 poster and view the 370 modern versions it's spawned.

In 1943, the American artist J. Howard Miller designed a poster for Westinghouse to motivate
the many women who were working during wartime on jobs of men who were in military service. The poster became known under the name Rosie the Riveter and was largely forgotten until a
few years ago, but enjoyed a revival in the form of new versions, particularly in the last few months.

Web Exhibition: Shepard Fairey posters for Barack Obama
Read the story of this brilliant 1989 poster and view the 149 variations it's spawned.

In 1989, Shepard Fairey (b. 1970) began to paste stickers all over town with a face and the mysterious message "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" or "Obey Giant" . Since then, his palette, geographic range and activities have increased enormously, and when he offered to support
Barack Obama's campaign with some posters in January 2008, he readily got permission from Obama to do so. Within a day, he had finished a design, one with the text "PROGRESS",
and another with "HOPE".

"The posters of Alphonse Mucha are selling incredibly well lately. In the last month I've sold Mucha's to collectors
from Washington to Australia. Just email me to be on the waiting list, as I am always seeking out Mucha's small gems.

My Antique posters for under $200 continues to sell very well, as clients take advantage of the pricing to own a piece
of history from a long gone era, perfect for Father's day.

I cannot believe a "Maitre de L'Affiche" version of the most famous, and perhaps the most valuable poster design ever created, Moulin Rouge - La Goulue by Lautrec, can sell at Christies for almost $7000 in what I call "C condition"
